Additional Testing And Expert Opinions
Immunohistochemistry And Molecular Diagnostics
Alongside the traditional anatomical pathology service we also provide immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry and molecular diagnostics - major ancillary diagnostic services that are becoming increasing requested in routine analyses.
Two key examples would be the detection of HER-2 and EGFR in breast and lung cancer, respectively. These markers have revolutionised the use of prognostic-therapeutic immunohistochemistry in the management of patients. Unilabs works closely with Health Service Laboratories - Advanced Diagnostics (HSL-AD), the immunohistochemistry, in situ and molecular diagnostics service arm of the UCL-Cancer Institute and a bridge between the Cancer Institute and University College Hospitals NHS Trust (UCLH). HSL-AD is also the host laboratory for UKNEQAS Immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridisation. Unilabs routinely refers tests for specialist immunohistochemistry and molecular tests to HSL-AD.
All Immunohistochemistry (IHC) and molecular diagnsotic testing is carried out in-house, by HSL Advanced Diagnostics, Kings College Hospital or The Institute of Orthopaedics, unless otherwise stated. These laboratories are accredited to ISO 15189.
